Born in Pakistan and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mirriam has worked, studied, and traveled around the world. She attended UC Davis, the University of Amsterdam, and Tulane University. She worked in global health from Latin America to Asia to Africa. In 2021 she moved to the Big Island, where her husband has family. She approaches her role as a newcomer to Hawaiʻi with humility and choke aloha ʻāina.
Mirriam also loves swimming, reading, hiking, photography, traveling, walking her dog Bandit, and going holo holo with her ohana. She has a passion for health and housing, food sovereignty, and the native animals and plants found in her favorite place in the world – the Big Island of Hawai’i.
